OUR VISION

Humble Beginnings

1

Like you, we had to start somewhere.

Our first milestone was to switch you on to our community, so if you’re reading this - we achieved that. High fives all round.

The first DV8 meetup is scheduled for Tuesday the 29th of June 2021. It will be a self-congratulatory, “we did it Reddit” type event, to celebrate our humble beginnings.

But our online events really are just the start. We plan to put the social back into social media, and will be running in-person events once it becomes “normal” to do so again.

The First Iteration

2

Here are some of the big ideas for our next step. If you feel like you can help with any of them please do get in touch.

  • Add a content page where people can search videos of past talks using tags to find what they are looking for.
  • Add additional content in the form of articles with tips and tricks written by some of our Pathfinders/Guides.
  • Create a video wall where our deviators who are ready to “fly” can post a brief video interview of themselves (courtesy of SEEKR*) these videos will give them the chance to showcase some of their personality and allow companies to see beyond their threadbare CVs. The videos will be tagged with specific skills to help prospective hiring companies find them (we may need some technical help with these). We can help create the videos but the tagging / searching capability is beyond us.

The Second Iteration

3

Encourage companies who have junior roles to post their coding challenges on our page and agree to reviewing a certain number every month to give our Deviators a chance to practice their skills and possibly find work.

Get sponsors from the corporate world who want to advertise jobs for junior engineers.

Introduce a tiny (we do mean teensy) membership fee for Deviators.

Revenue from the above will be used to create new features on the platform, hire people to run the community and we hope one day be invested in tools and platforms that will help people from the poorest communities build digital skills.

We do also hope to make a modest profit. We want to be upfront about this as we believe in absolute transparency. Two important points to make here 1. We won’t sell your data which is also one of the reasons we may need to charge that teensy membership fee. 2. The focus will always be community before profit and we aim to always reinvest the majority of any money we make back into the community.

The Third Iteration

4

Scale the most often over used word from the tech world in which we all live. For us though scale does not mean efficiencies of business translated into profits. What we are aiming for is to achieve scale in the number of you we help upskill and find a career either directly or indirectly through this platform.

Secondly we hope to help huge numbers of people gain basic coding skills in the first place through free (you guys helped pay for them) coding schools for youth growing up in countries without good education infrastructure. Global domination – but positive Global impact.
